Pothotuwa Tea Estate

  

Pothotuwa Tea Estate, established in 1989, is located in Beralapanathara within the Deniyaya agro-climatic district of Sri Lanka, at an elevation of 1,580 feet above sea level. The estate produces approximately 1 million kilograms of tea annually and holds certifications from the Rainforest Alliance and the Ethical Tea Partnership, reflecting its commitment to sustainable and ethical tea production practices.

Under the ownership and management of distinguished tea producer Anil Alwis, Pothotuwa Tea Estate has gained recognition for its high-quality teas. The estate has been acknowledged in the tea industry, securing the runner-up position in the Ruhuna region at the Tea Exporters Association's "Outstanding Tea Producers" event in 2023.

The estate specializes in producing premium black teas, notably the Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings Extra Special (FBOPF Ex Sp) grade. These teas are characterized by small, uniform, deep black curly leaves interspersed with silvery tips, yielding a strong, brisk, and richly concentrated liquor with flavor notes of prune, black cherry, and malt. This robust profile makes the tea enjoyable both with and without the addition of milk.
